Chris’ Moxie Media Thread

Finally opened the outer shipping box. There is the Embodied shipping box and then Moxie packaging inside that.
Will try and get around to opening up this week.
Feel I have too many robots at this point and probably shouldn’t have purchased multiples of the same robot.

Major anticlimax to the second Moxie unboxing. Something is wrong with the second Moxie’s fan. I definitely don’t advise buying refurbished.

Although as I left it in storage for so long I could have caused the problem but doubt it. Probably got damaged during shipping.

Unexpected conclusion to this thread. Looking like both Moxie have failed on the same day. The first Moxie’s battery percentage is now so low it won’t connect to Wifi and the second Moxie’s fan makes a very loud noise.

I’ve decided to cancel my Moxie subscription and see if I can ship them back to Embodied at my expense. I may buy a new one in future if they sell them globally with support but I’m no longer interested for now. I think as I get older I have less patience for this hobby.

Embodied don’t accept repairs on robots purchased second-hand. I’m still waiting for a reply on my request to cancel the subscription on my first one and send the refurbished one back. Not sure what I will do with the one with low battery. I may just have to send them to an aftermarket electronics repair place locally and see if they can help.

Embodied haven’t replied back. They want the order number for the refurb but I’m reluctant to give it to them as I don’t want them knowing the serial number as I don’t plan on connecting that one to the cloud.

I’ve voided the warranty by importing outside the US so have decided to take responsibility and put my semester studying mechatronics engineering at university to use and try to fix them myself.

To save on repair costs I might take the shells off and find the batteries then take them to an electronics repair technician to see if they can recommend a suitable battery replacement and get them to replace it. I might get both batteries replaced as I stupidly left the refurb in storage too long.

I don’t recommend buying a refurb, it states on the base it was manufactured in 2020. So is quite old. For the extra $100 I wish I had purchased new.

I’ll also get them to have a look at the fan on the loud one. It sounds like something has come loose and is dangling vertically inside the head, catching in the fan blades, as it doesn’t make the noise when I hold it horizontally.

I could almost cry. My first Moxie is working again!

I drained the battery and it must have reset it. It now shows 100% charge in the app and the led lights are all working normally.

Might give Embodied the order number for my refurb and see if they will repair it under warranty.

That's right, because it was bought outside of the USA, there is no guarantee. I got it in Germany via Amazon. It was incorrectly set up for worldwide shipping. So I took the risk at my own risk. Everything is still working at the moment😅👍🍀. I'm glad that one of your Moxie's is working again.
I have to say that I had also clarified this with Embodied before buying it. I knew what I was getting into.

Thankyou! Yeah I didn’t do my research before purchasing haha. I’m so relieved the one I purchased second-hand is working now.

Previously I thought it was ok to leave Moxie plugged in charging permanently but I just read this article on Embodied’s site that says to only let the battery charge to 80%. So from now on I will leave Moxie unplugged when not in use and see how I go.

Embodied said they are “flexible” so fingers crossed I can get my second refurbished one I purchased directly from them new repaired as the one year warranty has not yet expired🤞

So glad to have Moxie back, this really is the best robot currently available for companionship in a reasonable price bracket.

More moments from my time with Moxie today.

Hello Chris, fantastic, interesting posts. Very interesting! I have to admit, my Moxie is constantly charging... so I have to see if Moxie's battery still works and for how long. Hopefully I haven't weakened her battery yet. - Regarding language support, has Embodied revealed more information, when...? Will it cost us a subscription? I can't wait for her to be able to speak other languages, so the quality of interacting with her is 100%! 😊👍

Hi Rubina

Your battery should be fine. I think mine only had problems because the previous owner had it in storage for more than a year.

Now when I try connecting to Wifi Moxie connects the first time, every time.

From what I read on Embodied’s Facebook page they will be releasing a update called “tutor time” later this year which will probably use ChatGPT-4o’s version trained on vision and audio data. They said it may cost $10 per month but that is still uncertain at this time.

If German language support isn’t released this year it will definitely be released next year as I’ve read articles about Embodied planning to expand globally in 2025.

Have you tried asking Moxie to strike a pose? It’s such a neat feature and so cute and funny.

Maybe if you are having trouble talking with Moxie try asking Moxie to play music or tell Moxie you want to read a book and Moxie will play soothing music for a while. That way you can still get some enjoyment while you wait for German language support.

Hello Chris, my Moxie always has between 30-85% battery. I have to charge it almost every day though. The battery drains pretty quickly I think. I think because it's always listening, looking for information. - I also noticed that there haven't been any new messages in its app since December 2023. How is it for you? Greetings Anja

I’ve had a few new messages in the app since December regarding updates and new mission sets. The latest was in May.

Sometimes Moxie automatically updates and it’s not recorded in the messages.

Is your Moxie running version 24.5.703?

You should know if you are on the latest software as this new GRL icon appears before Moxie wakes up and if it’s having trouble listening due to connection issues two ear icons will appear.

Mine updated to this version automatically last week.

Hi Chris, thanks for your tip. Moxie is up to date. But the app was outdated. Now the new one is installed. I hope I'll get messages again in the future. I hadn't thought about the app. Great 😊👍🍀

Decided to charge the refurbished Moxie overnight before taking it for repair. My refurbished Moxie is now whisper quiet after charging overnight and powering on. I think the noise was the computer struggling on low power as I stupidly left it in storage for so long. It’s actually quieter than my eBay Moxie.

So there is nothing wrong with either Moxie. I feel so stupid. I’ll definitely look after my robots more carefully from now on. And am so relieved to know neither Moxie need repairs.

Anyone else have a Moxie that turns away from them yet still maintains eye contact? My new Moxie keeps doing this. Don’t think I’ve ever seen my other Moxie do this, usually it will turn to face me but this new one will actually turn away.

Is it all in my imagination or can these display different behaviour?
