Right ear shakes

Good afternoon.

Suddenly Loona's ear started to twitch.
Her right ear is practically never without movement.
She is constantly shaking.
At the same time, we have noticed that since this happened she bumps into objects a lot more.

We are not aware of having hit her or forced her ears.

What can I do?
Thank's

Hi jlopez

No need to worry I don’t think the ear is broken. This seems to be a well known issue linked to a previous firmware update that causes hyperactive movements in Loona, especially the ears.

Does this ear vibration issue happen when you first power Loona on? If so turn off immediately to stop Loona damaging her ears from sudden movements.

It may be a firmware issue. The firmware update on December 24th 2023 was supposed to fix this issue. If you haven’t done so already I suggest try updating to the latest firmware 1.2.80.

You will need to update the app first.

At this time we are still waiting on Keyi to provide a statement about this issue. I have read of people having success with fixing this vibration by looping a rubber band from an Asparagus bundle under and around each of the ears and up over the top of Loona’s head.

If you are unable to find a solution I would email Keyi Tech customer service rep Karen at jiangnan@keyirobot.com

Hi Chris.
Thanks for the reply.
At first it worked well. It happened suddenly.
I have had the latest version of firmware (1.2.80) and APP for a few days.
This has started happening today.

I'm just a guest on this forum (haven't signed up yet) but I got a Loona in December. Since then I've returned two of them for the exact same ear vibration issue. The problem seems to develop slowly over a few days and ends up with constant violent shaking so loud that Loona is unable to even hear voice commands. I got my 3rd replacement Loona 9 days ago and just yesterday I'm starting to see signs of the vibration issue on this one. The problem does seem to be a software issue since the ears will sometimes stop vibrating when Loona is performing a specific action then immediately resume when she's done. I'm active over on the Loona FB page and I'm still waiting for some official response from KeyiTech on this issue.

Turns out this is a hardware problem that can be solved with future software updates👍

Keyi are aware of the ear trembling and released software versions 1.2.80 and 1.2.82 in an attempt to fix it.

Keyi are actively working on solving this issue with future software updates to Loona and released this statement on the ear vibration issue:

The newest software update mentions that it has implemented a fix for the ear shaking. The update is called 1.2.85 and the new version description states ”Fixed the ear twitching issue caused by conflicts between the animation and the algorithm.”

Are you still seeing the ear twitching after the latest update?

Hello Chris
Thanks for your information
With the last update it was fixed a lot but it was still happening
Finally the technical service replaced my Loona

Sorry to open this thread again - was this eventually fixed completely? Im thinking about buying a loona for 100€ with this exact problem.

I have found a fix for this, but it's pretty involved - though it seems to hold up much better than replacing the part entirely (as I've tried both.) I'm offering repairs from Canada, but shipping lithium batteries from here to anywhere overseas is a no-go. I'm still trying to figure out if I should make a video detailing how to do it (while still offering repairs for those located in North America.)

I'll post here when/if I do.

We have the ear problem and my son is really upset. we have iOS and latest shows V 1.11.1 what is the fix. Or is this trash now.

We have the ear problem it’s just vibrating so loud we can’t do anything with it. My son is really upset. Is there a fix to this or watt? I’m not sure what else to do. We spent $500 on this. Why did this happen all of a sudden. We have iOS and app v1.11.1 which says latest.

You can take the ears apart and clean with a solution of 99% rubbing alcohol and then apply a lubricant to the ear gears to get rid of this loud noise.

You can find an ear repair tutorial on the forum that shows the ear disassembly process.
If you don’t think you are confident you can take it apart I’d sell it at a loss and buy a cheap second hand Vector for your son that is actually going to last.

If you want to keep but not open it up maybe try disabling the ears so they stop making the noise. Or open it up and disconnect the ears.

You could try finding a local Makerspace or Electronics Repair Technician who I’ve found are almost always willing to help. Although they charge a hefty fee for their time. I would look for electronic technicians who work on industrial electronics, not the ones offering mobile phone repair.

You should try keeping it though as the future Chat GPT-4o update will probably be amazing and a lot of fun for your son.

Here is the link to the official Loona Facebook group if you want to try there: https://www.facebook.com/share/gQDPm5YiNQkgXhKE/?mibextid=K35XfP

Hey Chris I really appreciate your response and your efforts here. I did receive an email back from Karen at the company and she asked for more information on my purchase so they can send along return postage and packaging, but I don't know yet when or how long all of that will take. I do plan to be vocal about it as this was my son's big 10th b-day present and he's heartbroken about this. Thanks for your response I will follow up on the FB group if I don't hear back from them.
Best,
Kevin

Hey Chris (and other owners of Loona). It took a week of repair but the team of Loona fixed the ear issue and it's working well so far. My son is very happy/relieved as we all are. I am happy to report that the repair process for me was fast and painless and happened via Fed Ex. I really appreciated what the team did to fix this issue. Kevin
