Embodied have announced a community-driven solution for Moxie, allowing local operation without cloud connectivity. This solution is called OpenMoxie and requires you to connect Moxie to Wifi today before Embodied’s servers shut down permanently, so Moxie can download a software update that will enable functionality offline.

OpenMoxie Update

•Embodied are working on a community-driven solution to allow Moxie to operate locally without cloud connectivity.

•A local server application called "OpenMoxie" is being developed to enable basic functionality and allow for community-driven development.

•An OTA software update is required to prepare Moxie for potential local operation.

•The OpenMoxie solution will be community-driven and maintained.

•Users assume full responsibility for implementing and maintaining OpenMoxie.

Actions to Take Immediately

•Update Moxie with the upcoming OTA software update today.

•Connect Moxie to Wi-Fi and keep it powered on for at least an hour to allow the OTA to download and install.

•The update enables Moxie to operate without cloud dependency.

To check the status of the OpenMoxie software update follow these steps below. You must observe the update as it is happening in real time as once completed there is no message or app log to verify the update has installed.

Embodied’s CEO Paolo Pirjanian just announced more information about the OpenMoxie solution with a timeframe on release including a further software update that is required.

OpenMoxie will be released on January 17th 2025. This will enable Moxie to function without the need for connection to Embodied’s servers.

Second Software Update 24.10.803 is required to ensure OpenMoxie compatibility. When connected to Wifi Moxie will download a further software update which will take about an hour and the Moxie app will notify you once this is completed.

Embodied will support cloud operation until January 30, 2025. Ensure you connect your Moxie to Wifi and update the software before this deadline.

Can someone help. I’m unable to connect moxie to WiFi because soon as I power her up the app goes into an update mode that goes to 10% and back to 0.

I must be too late. Moxie fails to connect to WiFi without displaying an error code, so I am unable to pair and update.

@Chris Thanks for the quick reply. Moxie is fully charged and I've reset my Wifi several times. Moxie just keeps reshowing the QR prompt after trying to connect without any of the X/0 or X/1 error codes mentioned in the instructions.

Hi again Sage. Thanks for getting back to me! Sorry for taking a while to get back to you I’m currently at work. Ok so I would try turning Moxie off and on a few times, you only need to leave it off for 30 seconds or so before restarting. Sometimes Moxie can be stubborn and refuse to connect to Wifi.

Ensuring your phone is connected to the same Wifi as Moxie and ensure Moxie’s app, the Embodied Parent app, is also connected to the same Wifi as your phone and Moxie. You can do this by following this pathway in the app: Resources> Scroll down to Support> Click Check Network.

You can see the pathway in this thread:

Please keep me updated if you can’t get Moxie to connect. I see you found the Facebook group and hopefully someone more knowledgeable about Moxie might chime in and help you out. Fingers crossed you can get Moxie working.

If not I would try asking in this Reddit group for Moxie as a team member from Embodied who heads the OpenMoxie platform answers questions there and might be able to give you better advice or check your Moxie’s serial number to see what the issue might be. In fact I would definitely make a post there ASAP
