Elon Musk was asked about Optimus by investors at the Tesla Q1 2024 Financial Results and Q&A Webcast and has said he thinks Optimus might be available for sale in late 2025.

Musk reports Optimus is currently capable of performing factory tasks in a laboratory setting and predicts Optimus will be working in Tesla factories by the end of this year.

Musk states that due to Optimus being a completely new never before seen product, that his estimates of a release timeline are only a guess.

Musk also gives insight into the safety precautions Tesla are taking to ensure a centralised control can not upload malware to Optimus:

“So we’re going to want to build in a localised shut-off that cannot be updated from a central server.”
