Engine AI’s upcoming companion robot “Top Player” SA02

Engine AI will soon be releasing an anime inspired humanoid robot geared towards companionship at the affordable price of US$5,300.

This robot will be incredibly light at just 25kg, and will feature LLM functionality.

Engine AI’s current crop of humanoid robots, the SE01 and PM01, can be seen below and are known for their organic movement and functional hands. Engine AI was founded by a former XPeng robotics co-founder, Zhao Tongyang, who worked on the predecessor to XPeng Motors Iron humanoid, the PX5. Tongyang also worked on XPeng’s robotic unicorn, so expect something outrageous when the SA02 launches.

EngineAI’s core team members come from XPeng’s robotics division, so will have considerable experience with the manufacturing and consumer side of tech products, which might give the SA02 a commercial edge other humanoid robots currently lack.

Seems EngineAI’s SA02 is being designed specifically with companionship in mind as it will be capable of gesture recognition.

The SA02 — a 1.25-meter-tall, 25-kilogram humanoid with a slender build and 28 degrees of freedom — is designed with a focus on companionship, according to EngineAI. Equipped with a large language model, it supports intelligent interaction and includes high-fidelity speakers and dual high-definition cameras for voice conversation and gesture recognition.

Found this image from an EngineAI presentation of the SE01 on YouTube showcasing a concept design labeled SE01 FACE-B. A concept with the anime style hair, similar to the silhouette of the SA02, is clearly visible to the bottom right. There also appears to be a transparent visor fixed to the head via attachments connected to the ear, covering the hair and arching forward over the face. The two part robotic jaw that begins at the lower lip has to make this the coolest humanoid design I’ve seen so far.

A wide range of unexpected face designs are featured, all which include hyper-realistic human facial features and face shields.

There also seems to be a full bodied concept design for the SA02 and SE01 to the left beside the SE01 FACE-A concept design.

Engine AI will be holding their own robot tournament on December 24th known as the EngineAI Robot Free Combat Tournament: “Mecha King.”

Wonder if the SA02 will be unveiled during this tournament? Would explain the “Top Player” name given to the SA02.

EngineAI might be using solid-state batteries in the SA02.
