Unitree just announced their first robot marketed as a companion, the Unitree R1, which they are calling an “Intelligent Companion”. Retailing at the incredible price of US$5,900,00. Do you think this is worth buying as a companion robot?

According to the CEO of Unitree Wang Xingxing, the company is currently scaling production with plans to make the R1 the best selling humanoid robot of 2026.

They might be waiting for their listing on the Chinese stock exchange before releasing the R1 for sale. I’m unsure if it’s possible to preorder now.

Their website is terrible with no clear way to purchase. Must have to make an inquiry via email.

Apparently you can buy them from Alibaba, but I’m unsure if you would still be covered for warranty repairs.

The price of $5,990 looks so good I was actually considering one of these. However, IMO you wouldn't want to actually buy the robot you can get for $5,990

For $5,990 you get the "R1 basic" (or £5920 ex-VAT)
The R1 Basic is the least capable of the R1 line, with 24 total DOF and without programming capabilities is not intended for research, it's best for demonstration and events. If you don't need a robot that is able to be programmed the basic might be a good choice.

To get a version you can actually develop for (R1 Edu Standard U1) is £10,290 ex-VAT) and if you want the dexterous hands (R1 EDU Pro A U3) you would pay £19,990 ex-VAT
