Ropet robot launching on Kickstarter soon!

Another new companion robot is about to hit the market. This one is called Ropet by a company of the same name, Ropet.

What do you think of it? At first glance it looks like a child’s plush toy. Ropet’s camera distinguishes it from a toy and gives it the ability to see the owner and interact using advanced AI features. It seems to have a lot of cutting edge features one expects as standard in a companion robot these days at an affordable price point.

Ropet’s features:

• Large expressive eyes that are capable of maintaining eye contact.

• Warm to the touch. It’s soft touch fur is capable of maintaining a warm human-like body temperature.

• Reacts to sound, touch and motion.

• Intelligent non-verbal communication: Will intelligently react to the environment, recognise over one hundred different foods. Can also recognise your emotional state and get sad if you don’t smile. Recognises hand gestures.

• Can dance to the rhythm of music.

• Integrated with AI chat capabilities.

• Reacts to facial expressions.

• Highly customisable with the ability to change eye and voice settings. The fur seems fully customisable also.

• Powerful chip allows processing locally for most functions.

• Two Ropet can interact and even chat with one another.

Very interesting. Desing-wise it is very cute, but the bottom-platform part worries me, can he stand while out of charger?
For fluffy companion robots, I usually have a priority to grade: the cuddle-ability. I'm concerned about that bottom part again, but I guess it won't be that noticeable?
I like that in the trailer they remarked the dress-up aspect of the companion robots community, this begs the question of taking them out of the home without the charger, I hope the battery lasts for a day at least.
An app to track the robot seems to indicate a raising stage?
Many questions out of a simple kickstarter video, but I'm so excited to get to know more about them!

The bottom-platform appears to be attached to the robot. You charge by plugging a USB into the bottom-platform.

The bottom part shouldn’t be very noticeable. You could always place some fabric or a fluffy costume over it. I think Ropet will be the best fluffy companion robot for cuddling as it’s also able to stay warm.

Yes you can take Ropet outside as most of the AI processing happens onboard using a powerful chip, you only need Wifi for the ChatGPT. The battery will last 2 hours off the charger.

Yes there will be a raising stage. You can unlock new eye colours and voices the more you interact with Ropet.

Ropet just released this update! Ropet is dancing to music in this clip and we see what it’s like to interact with Ropet.

This video offers a deep dive into Ropet from a robot collectors perspective and covers in-depth analysis of the design including the use of magnets to allow customisable add-ons to be added to Ropet. Highly recommend watching.

It concerns me that the it only stays charged for 2 hours. That seems very short. It should stay charged for a full day at least. Might be hard to explain to child why it stopped working. Kids tend to think these of things like this as alive, which is part of the point with the warm body temp feature. That could be a deal breaker for initial purchase. Just something to consider before launch. Otherwise it looks wonderful.

It concerns me that it only stays charged for two hours. That seems extremely short. Considering the children think of these things as alive, which I guess is the intent with the warm body feature, it should stay charged for a full day if possible. It is small enough that kids will want to keep it with them and interact with it throughout the day I would assume. I do realize with all the features , it is a big drain on the power but this may be a deal breaker for some. Not a criticism, Just something to consider before launch. Otherwise it is wonderful.

I looked through here anybody know what the estimated delivery date is for this? Roper, I was going to go ahead and buy it on Kickstarter, but after so many robots that I have backed on Kickstarter still not being delivered after a year I’m starting to get a little bit leery. I understand it takes time, but I’m coming up on two different robots that I’ve backed one is over a year and the other one is almost 2 years, so I’m hoping that this one’s not gonna be like those I would like to know if anybody has heard if they have a timeframe announced yet

This company seems different from the others- if you fill out this form they will send you a free Ropet themed Christmas card and reserve a free Ropet plushie to add to your Kickstarter order!

Timeframe:
Kickstarter launch: Early December 2024
Kickstarter shipping: March 2025

Fill out this form to be eligible for a free Ropet plushie: https://forms.gle/UermrH2bP5Bd81zn9

Announcement on Facebook:

Ropet just launched on Kickstarter, but I have to admit my enthusiasm has waned. The lack of transparency on pricing, jumping from $169 to $189, is off-putting. Biased reviews and a disappointing experience with Aibi, Loona and Aibo plus now Moxie tanking have left me questioning whether I should invest in Ropet at all.

Confused why the plushie comes with the pro package when we were told to give Ropet our sensitive contact details including address, name and phone number to receive the Christmas card that would have a unique code to unlock a free plushie. Most people will purchase pro to get the charging base, so why would anyone want two plushies? Very misleading marketing when we had to give up a lot of sensitive information which made it seem this would be a perk for allowing them to harvest our contact info.

The $1 was also a repetition of what happened with Loona- there was no early access to a special deal. This will all go over most people’s heads and I’ll be labeled a conspiracy theorist for bringing it up but I still think this type of misleading marketing really doesn’t do anything to engender a feeling of positivity towards a company. Very hesitant about purchasing this due to the ethical considerations around Lovot and ideological considerations with it being a Chinese company plus the misleading marketing.

Just locked in my order for a Ropet Pro. Had a look at the Ropet basic and there was no option or even mention of entering the Christmas card code to get a free plushie🤔

Ropet Pro with shipping cost Australian Dollars $328.46 or about US $210.

Also if you don’t have the money now you can always make a pledge and edit or cancel it before the end of the Kickstarter.

If you’re on the fence or don’t have the money at the moment I would advise making a pledge for the Ropet Pro now anyway while the heavily discounted early bird price is still available- you can always cancel your pledge later while the project is still live if you change your mind.

Kickstarter requires your card details and they won’t take payment until January 22nd, 2025.

Despite the pledge saying payment will be taken on January 22nd, just got this email with a conflicting date of January 21st 2025 at 9am.

Really have to wonder what Kickstarter is thinking with their choice of advertising in the email confirmation for a family friendly product like this.

artistgirl1978 disappointing experience with Ropet's Christmas card promise. Christmas card still MIA after 3 weeks! Raises concerns about reliability.
