Pophie reviews are now appearing on YouTube. Here are a couple of reviews which explore everything from the app set up process, Pophie in offline mode, customising the eyes and demonstrations of voice commands.

For me it is Pophie’s incredible conversational abilities which integrate a multimodal AI model with long term memory that can incorporate its surroundings into the conversation and display appropriate emotions depending on the topic of conversation that push the boundaries of AI companionship to an entirely new level.

Just wanna point out the box Pophie comes in (above image) has a logo identical to Ropet. Do you think these two companies are connected? The face plates do look similar, with some differences...

Omg you are right about the logo... It’s possible they are connected but judging from their different communication styles on social media I’m assuming it is just a case of inspiration rather than them being connected. I get the impression they are two distinct companies.

But yeah it’s definitely confusing that they are both using an almost identical logo…

The irony of Ropet being imitated though…I guess there are only so many configurations a robot can come in so guess they will all begin to start looking similar eventually. Going with a hard plastic face plate seems to be another similarity, wonder why they made that choice instead of going all fur?

I would guess that they went with a faceplate instead of all fur to make the furs easier to take on and off - you wouldn't need to worry about lining up the fur properly with the camera or eyes, whereas if it was all fur, obstruction of the camera could be an issue. I don't mind it, personally, especially if it makes maintenance (taking on and off the fur to clean) easier.

True. That definitely makes sense. I just know with Ropet I really dislike having to touch the hard plastic faceplate. Even a faceplate with a thin suede coating would be better for a uniform plush feel. But agree it’s better to have the plastic only for maintenance.

I just came across another beta video that gives a warts and all recount of what Pophie is currently like. Lots of bugs to sort out, definitely will be a while before it’s production ready.
