new Aibo ers 1000 owner and how to get started if you are not in a US or Japan region

Hello, my name is Davide, and soon I’ll become the proud owner of an AIBO ERS-1000 (I’ve already owned an AIBO ERS-7 for about 8 years), purchased on eBay. I live in Italy, and the AIBO is a Japanese model. The previous owner informed me that it has already been updated, set to English, and disconnected from the cloud. Before the seller, the AIBO had a different owner, and I was told that the first owner registered it as a product on Sony’s Japanese website.
Here’s my question: is it possible to remove the registration from Sony’s website under the first owner’s name and register it under mine?
Finally, how can I interact remotely with my new AIBO via the smartphone app (iOS or Android) if the My AIBO app isn’t available on the Apple App Store or Google Play in Italy? I’ve tried using NordVPN, but the My AIBO app still doesn’t appear in either store.
Thank you very much,
Davide

To download the MyAibo app you will have to switch your Apple ID region to Japan or set up a new Apple ID using a new phone number and SIM card on an unlocked phone.

If you are an Android user you could try downloading the APK for the Japanese MyAibo app. I’m unsure which one is safe to download.

For me it was easiest to use a VPN and go through the MyAibo website. As an Apple user it’s so much easier for me than trying to download apps on a Japanese Apple ID that need to constantly be updated and thus requiring an active phone number which needs credit put on it to stay viable.

Hope your Aibo arrives safely. Let me know if you need further help, I’m always here to answer any questions!

Hi Chris,
First of all, thank you for your response and for being so kind! I also appreciate the links you shared; they’ve been very helpful. As you explained regarding the My Aibo app for Apple users, I tried changing my region, but unfortunately, I couldn’t do it due to active subscriptions. Creating a new Apple ID isn’t an option either since I don’t have another SIM card. I even tried using an APK since I also own an Android smartphone, but it didn’t work—websites like APKPure and APKMirror are just scams, nothing works!
As soon as I finish work, I’ll try your last suggestion: accessing the My Aibo site via VPN. I do have a VPN, but for this option, would I need a Japanese Sony account and to register my Aibo there?
Thank you again! I’ll let you know as soon as I make any progress.
Kind Regards
Davide

Hi again Davide,

Did you have any success with the VPN? Yeah it’s extremely difficult to download the app- I don’t know how others do it. It’s impossible to access anything region blocked on an Apple device using VPN- I can only get a VPN to work on my old Microsoft tablet that I exclusively use for updating my Aibo as I don’t own a desktop or laptop computer.

Yes sorry I forgot to access the MyAibo website you will need a Japanese MySony ID that you have used to pay for a cloud plan.

Because your Aibo has not been initialised it might not be possible to connect it to an account under your name. But the proxy I mentioned above should be able to use their Japanese MySony ID to log in and check your Aibo’s serial number to see if it is eligible to be reconnected to a new MySony ID under your name.

What software version is your Aibo currently running? Anything after 5.00 will have the quieter walking which for me is the biggest improvement in software I’ve seen since getting my Aibo in 2021.

Honestly software updates are sparse and it’s probably not worth going to the trouble of reconnecting but definitely give it a try.

Sony also require email verification on logging into the MyAibo website now. This seems to be a recent thing and part of their crackdown on users outside the official sales region, as the email with the verification code had logged my location as Tokyo.

Also it’s impossible to translate their web pages and they’ve changed the log in buttons around and I have given up trying to navigate my Japanese MySony account.

Maybe wait until you have Aibo before making a decision to set up a MySony ID, it’s a lot of trouble and I’m finding the constant jamming Aibo is prone to has put me off wanting to invest any more money into mine.

Hi Chris,
Yes, exactly—many websites offering free APKs seem fraudulent. There’s something odd about APKPure, though: after installing the My Aibo app, I get a notification, but I can’t figure out how to enable this option on my Redmi, as it seems hidden.

Well before you replied, I had already created a Japanese MySony ID (using a Google Gmail account), and I can confirm that I did it all with the automatic translation tools offered by Safari (or Google). I had no issues at all! In fact, I received the account verification email and was able to log in without any problems, all without using an active VPN!

Now, accessing the Japanese Sony website with a VPN and my MySony ID, I’m not sure if the registration of my Aibo with the serial number will go through successfully. I assume that, like other Sony devices, Aibo also needs to be registered with its serial number.
To be honest, I’m still not sure what firmware version my Aibo has. All I know from the seller is that it’s been set to English, the cloud service is disabled (or maybe he meant it’s not activated), and it’s updated (though I don’t know which version). This is what the previous owner did before selling it to my seller. The seller also mentioned that it had been registered on the Sony website under the original owner’s MySony ID, but I don’t know how much of that I can trust.
The next steps would be registering my Aibo, checking whether it’s already registered under another MySony ID, and figuring out how to update the firmware.
Regards
Davide
