How do I pre-order a Tesla Bot?

When is Tesla enabling pre-orders for its ‘Tesla Bot’ humanoid robot?

I’m looking to secure my spot ASAP as Tesla pre-orders only require a low deposit and are cheaper than paying retail.

Staff at my local Tesla showroom on washington street didn’t know anything about it.

Keeping my eyes peeled for an order button but can’t find one anywhere on the Tesla website.

Can you let me know when the pre-order button shows up?
 
Pace of development for this robot is extremely fast. My prediction is pre-orders will open on the next Tesla AI Day 2023 but I can’t forecast an exact date as Tesla AI day 2021 was on a different date to Tesla AI day 2022.

Tesla just held an event for the first time called ‘Tesla Investor day’ where they gave an update on Optimus so I think Tesla is so unpredictable I wouldn’t feel confident giving an exact time.

At 1:48:12 in the below video of Tesla Investor Day 2023 there is a time stamp called ‘Bot Update with Elon Musk and Ashok Elluswamy’ but this is incorrect. The actual time stamp is 1:30:30.

We see an Optimus prototype that can now walk and manipulate hand tools with ease. It seems like Optimus has made massive strides but looks to be still in the prototype phase.


I will definitely post an update here when pre-orders open, after placing mine first of course😎
 
I am a disabled senior who lives alone. I want to stay in my home but I need help. Will a Tesla Robot be able to help with things like vacuuming, mopping floors, doing laundry, general household chores and pushing me in my wheelchair to doctors? If I had that kind of help, I could stay in my home. It would be such a blessing.

Yes Optimus should be able to help you with those tasks. This recent video of Optimus released by Tesla shows Optimus can perform a lot of general household tasks such as answering the door, fetching parcels and groceries, watering plants, general cleaning and serving.

Optimus timeline estimate:

•2024: Tesla validating hardware with Gen 3 released later this year. Training under laboratory conditions begins.

•2025: Tesla to begin rigorously training Optimus using xAI’s Colossus and Cortex supercomputers that came online this year.

•2026: Optimus Pre-Orders likely to open. Tesla will begin leasing Optimus in real world scenarios such as warehouses to validate efficiency of learning. SpaceX to send a mission to Mars, possibly crewed by Optimus.

•2027: First Optimus deliveries possibly occurring in 2027 or by 2030 at latest.

This is an estimated timeline but as Musk is planning on sending an unmanned mission to Mars in 2026; it’s likely Optimus will have completed a lot of its training by then as it’s assumed Optimus will be on the Mars mission. This also sounds like the type of marketing strategy emblematic of Musk who might employ it for a pre-launch announcement.

I’m hoping Optimus can end the cycle of people being put into care. I’ve seen my grandparents go into care and it’s something I want to avoid myself. Really hoping you can hold out until Optimus is released. Thanks for stopping by and wishing you all the best🙏

Hi Kristen

As of now, Optimus is not available for pre-order. The project is still in its early prototype phase, and we can expect a completion date sometime between late 2025 and early 2026.

Recently, Tesla integrated a hand that enables Optimus to have human-like dexterity. However, they still need to work on integrating the actuators in the legs to avoid any pinching hazards. Finalizing the design for mass production will likely take another 12 months.

Additionally, Tesla needs to train Optimus's AI in various human tasks, which may take the entire year of 2025. We can expect to see autonomy in the AI by 2026.
