Musk’s xAI just launched Grok Companions, avatars that give Grok visual embodiment. Apparently AI avatars are popular with a lot of people, but until Grok there hasn’t been one that seamlessly integrates a sophisticated LLM with a visual avatar in a single platform.
From reading on X it seems this was a marketing strategy to draw in a lot of new Grok users, especially young people, among whom these talking AI avatars are popular.
Could this be Musk testing the concept of companion robots to gain more insight into what consumers are looking for in a companion AI ahead of an Optimus launch?
