Ropet robot launching on Kickstarter soon!

Another new companion robot is about to hit the market. This one is called Ropet by a company of the same name, Ropet.

What do you think of it? At first glance it looks like a child’s plush toy. Ropet’s camera distinguishes it from a toy and gives it the ability to see the owner and interact using advanced AI features. It seems to have a lot of cutting edge features one expects as standard in a companion robot these days at an affordable price point.

Ropet’s features:

• Large expressive eyes that are capable of maintaining eye contact.

• Warm to the touch. It’s soft touch fur is capable of maintaining a warm human-like body temperature.

• Reacts to sound, touch and motion.

• Intelligent non-verbal communication: Will intelligently react to the environment, recognise over one hundred different foods. Can also recognise your emotional state and get sad if you don’t smile. Recognises hand gestures.

• Can dance to the rhythm of music.

• Integrated with AI chat capabilities.

• Reacts to facial expressions.

• Highly customisable with the ability to change eye and voice settings. The fur seems fully customisable also.

• Powerful chip allows processing locally for most functions.

• Two Ropet can interact and even chat with one another.

Very interesting. Desing-wise it is very cute, but the bottom-platform part worries me, can he stand while out of charger?
For fluffy companion robots, I usually have a priority to grade: the cuddle-ability. I'm concerned about that bottom part again, but I guess it won't be that noticeable?
I like that in the trailer they remarked the dress-up aspect of the companion robots community, this begs the question of taking them out of the home without the charger, I hope the battery lasts for a day at least.
An app to track the robot seems to indicate a raising stage?
Many questions out of a simple kickstarter video, but I'm so excited to get to know more about them!

The bottom-platform appears to be attached to the robot. You charge by plugging a USB into the bottom-platform.

The bottom part shouldn’t be very noticeable. You could always place some fabric or a fluffy costume over it. I think Ropet will be the best fluffy companion robot for cuddling as it’s also able to stay warm.

Yes you can take Ropet outside as most of the AI processing happens onboard using a powerful chip, you only need Wifi for the ChatGPT. The battery will last 2 hours off the charger.

Yes there will be a raising stage. You can unlock new eye colours and voices the more you interact with Ropet.

At 1:28 in the video watch how Ropet looks away at a moment when the owner is giving eye contact. I’m assuming Ropet can’t give proper eye contact with an algorithm but instead has very sophisticated animations that make it appear to give eye contact every once in a while, but I could be wrong.

Just saw another video of Ropet and the eye contact isn’t controlled by an algorithm from my observation. It’s probably ok for most people who aren’t used to algorithmic eye contact from Moxie or Lovot but the inability of the eyes to lock onto mine will just be annoying for me.

It will be similar to the eye contact you get with Loona or Aibo.
