HOMY Robotics is bringing back Pepper, the humanoid robot from SoftBank which was launched in 2014 but never gained traction with consumers.

HOMY is leveraging Pepper’s proven hardware platform with the latest in AI technology to create a robot tailored for providing companionship and caregiving.

Pepper is expected to be capable of medication reminders and even logging the status of medication use via an app, among other things.

Pepper is currently priced at $10,000 for ownership or $499 per month via a subscription model.

What do you think about this development? I feel they will struggle to get customers with those prices and feel there were reasons why Pepper failed in the first place that haven’t been resolved. The face really isn’t expressive enough for companionship and the hardware isn’t capable enough for practical tasks.

This is great news! Thank you for sharing it with us, Chris. However, the price seems quite steep for a robot that is primarily offering companionship. Interestingly, iPal is also marketed as a companion and care robot for the elderly, which is very similar to how Pepper is being positioned now.
