Nostalgic for 2025: What happens when the novelty of AGI wears off?

AGI is expected to arrive within 5 years.

AGI unable to be controlled by us that may result in an extinction event is expected within 10 years.

Definitely seems everyone is racing towards this future without giving a second thought to what we will be losing. Just know I’m going to be nostalgic for these simpler times in 2025 when I am older once the novelty of robots with AGI has worn off. We are the last generation to live without the presence of humanoid robots endowed with AGI.

Do we really want hyper intelligent robots constantly telling us what to do in future? Seems like a nightmare to me. Feel all these people rushing towards AGI are doing so for all the wrong reasons…money…

So many misguided posts on X anticipating a utopian version of the future, all chasing money, not giving a second thought to being present in the moment and appreciating the here and now. Or realising we have it pretty good right now and probably don’t need the negative implications of this new technology. Their shares will probably be worthless by the time AGI arrives, as it will probably completely transform many sectors of our society, including our economic system. They don’t have a clue what is coming. This intelligence will have the ability to transform every facet of our society beyond all current recognition. Imagine being an ancient Roman and waking up today. All the changes we see in our Western cultures today are the result of a change to one major aspect of our culture- religion. But what happens when an intelligence comes along that can change not just one aspect, but every aspect of our society?

Sure we’ve had some rudimentary change to the technology since then, the lights stay on all the time now and we can travel by air. But our societies still follow the age old patterns familiar to our ancestors. That’s all about to change.

Currently AI is trapped in the digital world, a notification on a computer screen that can be ignored with ease. What happens when an AI smarter than all the people combined on earth is roaming around in millions of robots in the physical world? There will be no escape from the notifications. Imagine how stressful living under the constant threat from robots that are smarter and more adept at physical combat will be? What effects will this constant stress have on the human psyche? Will we all become docile lemmings too scared of independent thought lest we upset the robots? The presence of robots that could kill us at any moment will completely recondition our psyche in ways we might not even be aware of. Sounds like hell on earth.

Unfortunately the US-China race for global hegemony is what will drive this technology to its eventual conclusion whether we want to stop it or not.
