Tesla just released photos of their pilot production line for Optimus via the official Optimus account on X.
We get a glimpse at a new iteration of Optimus hardware being assembled. This as yet unnamed prototype has the newer “Gen 3” hand and a new shoulder design that forgoes the previous fabric for an enclosed plastic design that minimises pinch points.
Due to the size constraints of its form factor, Optimus requires rare earth magnets in its mechanical components. Tesla is working with China to obtain a license to use rare earth magnets for Optimus, due to China's recent export restrictions.
Production Timeline: Musk expects to produce a few thousand Optimus bots this year, with most production happening towards the end of 2025. He's confident in reaching a million units per year in under five years.
