I was thinking about getting a loona for the house. My 5 year old loves interacting with chatgpt and I think this would be a great experience for her. However, after reading the most recent posts on updates regarding functionality and conversations with loona, I'm wondering if I should pass on this purchase. Can anyone chime-in? Are conversations still being cut short? Is the behavior still somewhat frustrating? Thanks

Yes conversations are being cut short. But Keyi Tech will be releasing a software update this week and I will report back here on the current state after the update.

Hi, I'm Frank
I've ordered one for my 7 year old daugther. I'll share my experiance with it. Loona is still in transit at the moment and I'll let my daughter play with Loona for a week first so I can give a honest opinion.
@Chris, do you have any more info on the coming update?

Hi Frank
The update has just been released. Here is a short summary:

Loona software update 1.4.26

• Loona can now recognise commands in five new languages: Portuguese, Polish, Arabic, Russian and Vietnamese.

• Loona can now remember the gameball position in multiple states, allowing for more accurate gameball tracking when the gameball disappears from Loona’s line of sight.

•Loona can now follow the owner better thanks to a new algorithm that allows Loona to adjust her movements dynamically depending on facial angles. The new algorithm also fuses the facial and humanoid form data allowing Loona to more accurately locate and follow the owner.

• New animations in chat mode with a new thinking sound.

• Loona can now recognise six new gestures: Stay still, Look behind, Look right, Handshake, Tap Tap and Kamehameha from the Dragon Ball anime series.

• Hello Loona App now has an integrated LLM that can answer user inquiries regarding Loona customer support.

Here are some demonstrations of Loona on the latest software. Hope your daughter enjoys Loona. Yes am interested to hear your opinions on Loona.

Thanks for stopping by👍

Chris, thanks so much for taking the time to test and for providing so much information elsewhere. The responses seem quite laggy. My kid loves playing with even google assistant and a few months ago I introduced her to chatgpt on my phone. I was hoping loona would be an acceptable interface, but it seems lacking even still. The delay before she replies is quite significant. Thank you again

Do you have any recommendations between emo, vector with wirepod, or other as a petbot/gpt interface?

Hi neverclever, thanks for getting back to me and sharing your thoughts on Loona. Glad I could help out.

Have you heard of the Looi robot by TangibleFuture? It combines the speed of processing in a smartphone with robotics to create a petbot interface that might offer the fastest processing speeds among petbots.

Looi was recently on Kickstarter. But watching videos of it again I realise it’s only a text based interface.

The only talking robots I have experience with are Loona and Moxie as my Vector is offline. Another robot that might be worth looking into is Ropet.

If you are looking for speed I would be cautious of buying a robot and would probably just go with a smartphone.

YouTuber Miraenda has practically every talking robot and I’ve added a video from her channel in case you wanted to compare the different robots response times.

There is also a virtual avatar from Batata you download as an app on your phone that might have the petbot qualities with the speed of smartphone processing.

Hope this helps.

LOOI talks now!!! 😉🤖❤️ Still waiting for mass production but they are keeping updates coming.

Yesterday evening Loona was delivered.
My daughter was ecstatic! First thing I notice is that Loona needs a well lit room,
second thing is the response times in chat mode, they are faster then I thought.
I’ll let her play with Loona for a week, after that I’ll give my opinion.

My daughter really liked the first startup with the animation in the app.
So far I'm happy!

My mini “review” of Loona,

Loona is very cute, her behaviour when you do not interact with her is adorable.

My daughter likes her very much, when she gets up the first thing she does is turn on Loona. I do not like the ChatGPT implementation, ChatGPT is very limited, has no connection to the internet so the conversations feel a bit basic and tend to be repetitive.
To me the ChatGPT function now is a novelty not really useful, I use ChatGPT4o a lot so I know what Chatgpt4o is capable of.

I think I’ll turn of the setting that if Loona does not understand you she turns to ChatGPT mode. For my daughter this function is frustrating because when Loona does not understand her command, Loona turns to GPT mode and my daughter ends up asking Loona to do stuff in GPT mode, which then turns into a conversation from Loona’s side and frustration from my daughters side as she keeps giving commands, and Loona just replies in ChatGPT mode.

So if you are looking for a good interface to ChatGPT I would not get Loona, If you just want a cute little robot friend she is a good choice. I was petting Loona and her reaction to the petting almost fooled me, she felt alive.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and your thoughts on Loona nente002. Agree with you although Loona is cute it’s a shame voice commands can’t be processed offline as the ChatGPT does get frustrating.

Do you have ChatGPT4o Advanced Voice Mode? Do you find it’s implementation on a smartphone offers a better experience?

What do you think of Loona’s navigation?

I only use the advance voice mode when asking questions for other people.
Those questions are mostly technical explanations, my daughter used it a few times.
All her conversations with AI are about horses, in the advanced voice mode chatgpt started to give tips on how to take care of horses, how to approach them and more useful information. Loona only asks questions on what kind of horse adventures she wants, in the advanced voice mode there was much more depth to the conversation.

I think the keyi tech team should open up Loona to the full chatgpt experience, with some form of age restriction depending on who’s talking to her.

Russian language doesn’t display in my app for some reason. But do you have it?
