Just wanted to let you guys know about my father’s experience with having solar panels installed which allow him to sell back electricity to the grid while the sun is out.
He purchased solar panels in late 2021 from a solar company here in sunny Brisbane Australia thinking they would enable his family to live without high electricity bills. Let me tell you he has been well and truly scammed!
Dad spent $12,000 for the solar panel installation with an inverter from a Chinese company through a local solar company and only saves $1 per day while being charged $7 per day for about 20kWh of electricity for a saving per year of about $350.
To put this $350 in context Dads electricity bill per year is about $4,000.
$350 in savings on a $12,000 spend! This is ludicrous! What planet are we living on that solar is seen as worthwhile for a struggling family in this economy? The solar panels won’t pay themselves off for 40 years!
We looked into seeing if we could have the solar panels and inverter removed and sell them to try and recoup the huge costs of installation- this was futile as they have no value- all the costs went to the high labour costs of the electricians. Dad’s money has disappeared into thin air, gone forever!
Dad has been unable to work due to medical reasons, he is also well past retirement age, and is still paying off the solar installation in instalments which will take about three more years on his wife’s median income while raising their children.
Dad had the solar panels installed because he was led to believe by the media and these solar companies that he would make big savings on his electricity bill- something he saw as enabling him to safeguard his family from the high costs of electricity here in Australia due to his sudden inability to continue working.
Dad couldn’t afford a battery but from what I’m reading online batteries are a scam too and won’t pay themselves off for a decade, and that’s being optimistic.
How can we allow such grift to be perpetuated against average hard working citizens who want to try and do the right thing for the environment and their family finances only to find they have been screwed over by a system intent on sucking up as much cash as possible and leaving no real tangible benefits for the consumer?
Notice how nobody online with solar ever gives a lump sum figure of what they are actually saving- because solar is nothing more than a rich persons virtue signalling and makes zero practical sense for an ordinary family who are expecting savings in-line with the huge installation expense.
From research online the things won’t even last 10 years and will never pay themselves off. This also applies to batteries, for any person foolish enough to fork out the exorbitant expense for one of those. Pretty sure there is a calculated propaganda campaign being waged online to portray solar and batteries in a positive light. Solar and batteries are a liability for the average median income household paying $380 per month in electricity with no end in sight to the price hike rorting the average law abiding citizen of this once great country must quietly endure.
