    OwlBear by Takkimi

I ended up cancelling my pledge, for a couple of reasons. First, I tried to do research on "Takkimi", the company that supposedly makes this robot. Absolutely nothing online. After the first rush of pledges, nobody else backed it for weeks, there were no updates and I noticed several other...

InsBotics are looking for Pophie beta testers

The "beta tester" nonsense was a scam, just like the "naming contest" with the pre-selected name. They weren't looking for beta testers, they were looking to pay influencers with free product to market it. I correctly guessed who a lot of the "testers" would be before they were announced, by...

    OwlBear by Takkimi

It reminds me of a Chongker MateCat Pro, especially the face with blinking eyes.

    OwlBear by Takkimi

I recently backed this kickstarter project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/takkimi/owlbear-a-self-learning-ai-pet-with-ultimate-bionic-skin/description It's a pet robot similar to Cupboo or Moflin, but it has some interesting new features. Like the Cupboo, it's an offline robot with no...

Thoughts on Kata Friends marketing? Might wait for Tesla dog…

That has to be the most irritating video I've ever seen. Annoying presenter dressed like a clown, yammering so much I couldn't hear or focus on what the robot was doing. I stopped it less than halfway through. I'm no longer interested in this robot for two reasons. First, it's subscription...

Moflin Robot by Casio: Importing from Japan

Nope. Casio refuses to sell Moflin to Canadian customers. As soon as they detect that you're in Canada, the Moflin page switches to a 404 error. I tried using a VPN but they won't ship to Canadian addresses from their US site. It's clearly stated in their terms of service. It's still possible...

Thoughts on Kata Friends marketing? Might wait for Tesla dog…

I think you're right. They're not showing potential customers the robot or what it can do as a robot, they're depicting it as an imaginary AI cartoon character and toy. I watched several of their online cartoons and I felt like they were selling a care bear, not a robot. SwitchBot's AI Kata...

Kakaloom & Pawbie: Soft companion robots gaining traction

I'm not sure how to feel about AI chat in a robot. The Maicat I have is supposed to have AI chat, but its sound is so crappy I can't understand what it says. And, it seems to just say pre-recorded words and phrases. I think AI chat has a long way to go before it seems natural and spontaneous...

Kakaloom & Pawbie: Soft companion robots gaining traction

I looked at Unee's website last night. I wouldn't call Unee a robot. It doesn't move or do anything besides AI chat, and the LED eyes. Even the manufacturer says it's not a robot. My impression is that it's really an AI chat speaker wrapped in fur and cute eyes. That's why it's so cheap. Also...

Kakaloom & Pawbie: Soft companion robots gaining traction

It's funny, there are so many robots coming out now, but I feel like most of them are very similar to each other. Now the trend seems to be fuzzy, cuddly robots to alleviate loneliness. A lot of them blur the line between robot and child's toy.

Kakaloom & Pawbie: Soft companion robots gaining traction

Kakaloom is a lot like Cupboo, which I already have. So I gave it a pass for now. I believe it's scheduled to ship in February. It's cute though, if I didn't have the Cupboo I might have pledged it. I checked out Pawbie. It doesn't ship until February as well. It looks kind of interesting...

Niko & Noa: Kata Friends by SwitchBot

I just found an interesting article which provides some more details about the the Kata friends. I've been using Switchbot products for about a year, so I have some observations about them which I think will apply to the Kata friends. Here's the article: IFA 2025 article re Kata friends The...

Moflin Robot by Casio: Importing from Japan

Moflin is now available on Casio's US website. I'm in Canada, so if I order one I will have to use a parcel forwarding service, as they don't sell Moflin on their Canadian website. I was able to install the Moflife app on my Android phone using the APK Pure app/website. Since I don't have a...
